System and Network Security

The times we live in are full of people up to no good. In the world of IT this can be computer viruses written to cause reek havoc on computer systems. It could be hackers trying to break in to steal or deface vital information, or simply to prove they can. A safe behind a wall of fire

With computer viruses as prolific as they are (more that 200 new ones each month) you need a good defence against them. A virus may do as little as randomly change the font in a word document, I know it doesn't sound very bad but it would get very irritating very quickly. On the other hand a virus may send an email to everyone in your address list or start deleting files from your computer. Viruses can come from many places the major ones being files from home and emails.

Security

If your company's network is connected to the internet you can be vulnerable to hackers. With this in mind a firewall is probably a good idea. A firewall can prevent both inbound and outbound traffic and can help prevent some viruses from propagating. It has become a sad fact that a growing percentage in the level of industrial espionage is conducted by employees so it is important to have you networks file permissions set carefully.
